Garden Chores

Many things were begging to be done in my yard this week and Thursday I got to quite a few. The bed shown above is mostly herbs with a few flowers for accent color. The flowers were drying up and the parsley had gone to seed and was turning yellow as well as trying to swamp the bay tree. The thyme was also in need of a good haircut (although it might just need to be ripped out and replanted.  I cut down the parsley and will leave the base of the plant to see if it will come back. I bought another seedling to fill in so that it will look nicer. I also pulled the flowers and have new ones to add for fresh color.

Additional chores accomplished:
•moved the main compost bin to a new location behind the peach tree (plan on planting pumpkins in the old location)
•harvested the bottom layer of the worm bin and drained the liquid out to dilute and spray on the vegetables
•trimmed the bush next to the chicken coop (I had waited to do this so as not to disturb nesting birds)
•dug up the blueberries and put them in pots as the clay soil was too alkaline for them. Hoping that potting soil and acid fertilizer will bring them around if they survive being pulled up and moved
•spread additional straw to mulch my asparagus and berry beds
•pulled weeds!
