Garden Update

Barbara at Tigers and Strawberries says that the most important thing a gardener needs is a journal. That is one of the reasons for this blog. I am going to try to write down when I plant and when I harvest and how various plants are doing.

So, here is a list of what is growing right now around my house:

Herbs
Basil
Chives
Parsley
Cilantro
Tarragon
Rosemary
Oregano
Marjoram
Thyme
Sage

Vegetables
Tomatoes – in the ground for about one month, ate one cherry!
Cabbages – since mid-winter, need to be pulled. They did not do well.
Celery – going to seed already
Chard – always grows well here
Broccoli – just leaf sprouts leftover from harvested plants
Collards – flowering, feeding the leaves to chickens
Purple kale – same as above
Asparagus – not doing as well as I had hoped, replant new variety?
Green beans – bush, we have been eating them for about a week
Cucumbers – growing up an old ladder, first fruit 2 weeks ago
Onions – spanish, interspersed with the beans
Potatoes – some are flowering
Beets – some almost ready to harvest
Carrots – planted seeds, no sign of them yet
Peppers – seedlings, trying them against south wall for heat
Squash – three varieties, from seed, transplanted in ground last week

Fruit
Strawberries – about done
Raspberries – some blooms
Blackberries – about the same
Blueberries – a little fruit, need to dig up and pot, need more acid
Peach tree – tiny, one peach this year
Cherry (Suriname, I think) – about one foot tall
Fig – one foot tall
Avocado – growing well, no fruit yet
Satsuma – great crop early this year
Lemon – tree looks scraggly, might replant
Lime – beautiful tree, good fruit
Pomegranate – about 5 foot tall, no fruit yet
